Saturday at Breckenridge

I've never been to Breckenridge before, but it's so fun!! The town is super cute and of course the skiing is great. My friends and I drove up in the morning, watching the sun rise; we stayed all day and saw the sun set over the mountains.

It was a perfect ski day. And this was the first time I've ever skied without a helmet! See the cute hat? :) Helmets are definitely still good for when it's cold, though. We're trying to hit up Keystone next weekend after our HRTM class goes to Vail.

Sunny days in Denver

The weather today: 70 and sunny!
The plan today: walk around downtown!

I joined Sorry and Ginger on a shopping/wandering outing as we enjoyed a ridiculously summer day in January!!!

Too bad the north east is suffocated by over five inches of snow...

My wandering mind

Do you ever look at your professor's head?

Take my economics professor for example. The guy stands up there and lectures for one hundred minutes about Smith, Marx, Bentham, the "theory of the firm," and marginal costs. He has no notes in his hands while he scribbles illegible, yet vital, terms and facts on the board. His arm swoops down over half the surface, making a quick supply and demand graph to illustrate his point. Ask him a question and he answers in wayyy more detail than you wanted. Anything in the readings, he can explain in long or short. And he's not that old, not a grey hair in sight.

So what's my point? Look at his head. It doesn't seem unusually large. But he keeps all this information in there. More knowledge just about economics than I could possible hope to learn in all my undergrad years. And his head really isn't that big!

Ok, so I guess I'm the only one who would space out and focus on this during class. But I do really want to know where it all goes? All our memories and knowledge and functions that we use everyday; how does it all fit in our teeny little heads?

Endorphins!

This morning, I did - for the second time! - something I never thought I would be capable of: I woke up before 6 AM, and went to the gym!!!

Anyone who knows me knows that I looooove sleeping more than anything. But here I am, sacrificing sleep to go work out. Woah. I know.

Anyway, hopefully this becomes something I can do consecutively, consistently, and constantly (big words there). Because sometimes those little bity successes feel super über important :)

Lack of creativity

I made an album called "This Weekend," but isn't that kind of a stupid name for a photo album? Really, it's just because I couldn't come up with a better name for it. Some days are just void of creativity.

Yesterday, my friends and I met a new transfer student. Well, Sorry and Ginger already knew him, but I met him. I'd forgotten that people could transfer halfway through the year, and it reminded me of a friend of mine, Rugby, who goes to a nice, famous college in that cold region of New England.

I remember going through the college process senior year with Rugby. We've been good friends and I was excited when we both applied to DU. I was also kind of nervous because he's got way better grades than I do, and a college isn't going to take that many kinds from one high school. But we both got in! He got into a lot of other chill colleges, too. And then I thought, how cool would it be if we went to the same college?!

But Rugby did his smart person thing and went to that nice, famous college. Now, not that I have anything against that particular college, but if I could, I would suggest Rugby transfer out and go somewhere way chiller and more fun. Because then he would be happier! And I'm all about the happy factor for all humans :)

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend o' fun

With today off from school, my friends and I were able to enjoy a nice long weekend away from campus. Ginger's parents so kindly invited us up to a mountain-side place they rented at Winter Park Resort so we could go skiing all weekend. Ginger was able to take me, and three other of our friends, Sorry, Smiley, and Wallace. Ginger's brother and his friends were there as well, so we got to ski with them, too. Out of all of us, only Ginger, her brother and his friends, and I had skied before (Smiley had been snowboarding several times). So Sorry and Wallace had to learn how!

Saturday was our first day and Sorry, Smiley, and Wallace took lessons while Ginger and I shredded the upper part of the mountain with her brother et al. Since Ginger loves glades ("tree skiing"), I was forced into a lot of them... and it turns out I like it! The trees are like one big maze you have to get through, but with bumps and sometimes rocks. There was this one run that took us half and hour and completely kicked my ass. (Thank goodness I had a warm-up day at A-Basin on Friday with Uncle T!) It was amazing though!!! The level of difficulty really made me want to get so much better so I could just rip through it someday. I continued to push myself for the rest of the weekend and definitely felt like I was improving :)

Yesterday Ginger and I tried to teach Sorry and Wallace how to ski ourselves, since they told us how much they loved it on Saturday. BIG MISTAKE on our part! We had no idea the level they were still at (um, they didn't even learn how to turn yet. kinda important!!) so we took them up to some greens that were still way too difficult. It was a challenging hour for sure: we tried to explain how to turn, tried to teach them about their skis, tried to keep their spirits up when they kept falling because of our directions, and tried not to get frustrated with each other.

By midday, we were ready for lunch and a break, during which we laughed at all our stupidity on the mountains (I even fell trying to teach Sorry how to turn). In the afternoon, Ginger and I tired ourselves out by hitting up Mary Jane, where the most difficult trails on the whole mountain are.

In the evening, we watched the Golden Globes and then had a good night's sleep. We meant to go skiing this morning, but sideways snow and wicked winds kept us off the slopes. Instead, we got back to DU early and now have plenty of time to rest, unpack, and get ready for chapter.

Happy new year, and other updates

I was yelled at by a certain BYERS who won't leave me alone until I've blogged. So I'm blogging.

The reason I haven't been blogging, BYERS, is because I am a busy busy college student who has lots of friends, lots of work, lots of commitments, and very little time. Therefore, my blogging suffers when I'm at college. I apologise to anyone, besides BYERS who gets upset by this. Complaints about my blogging habits may be submitted in the form of comments at the end of posts, when I do post.

Happy tenth day of 2011 everyone! A week and a half into this new year and what have you done with it? Been (somewhat) successful with any new years' resolutions? Since I'm still in the holiday spirit of sharing, I'll share some of mine with you... be sure not to laugh.

1) Be organised
-in my room (closet, desk, drawers, etc.)
-with schoolwork (read: get it done!)
-with time & appointments
2) Wake up earlier
-go to bed earlier
-get more done in the morning
-be in class on time, every time
3) Call/Skype my family more often
4) Read more books
-especially the ones assigned for schoolwork...
5) Wear my retainer more often
6) Get more As in classes
-go to office hours
-ask questions in class
-complete assigned work [do you see a repeated theme here?]
7) Be more fiscally minded
-get a job
8) Spend summertime efficiently
-get a job
9) Be healthier
-physically (being active, eating properly, adequate sleep)
-mentally (being kinder, adequate sleep)
-spiritually (I'm not sure what I mean by this, but I feel like it's something I should work on)
10) Do more for me!
-read: I do wat I want, foo'

Gosh, I sure hope this makes up for everyone's (read: BYERS'S) disapointment in my blogging. Again, I'm so very sorry that I'm so terribly un-punctual. But hey, if I'm finally being good about doing my schoolwork, maybe the blogging will suffer :( En revanche, if I'm be more organized in the time spectrum, I should be able to balance both. Hmm...
